This attractive Aspen leaf seen at Fyvie recently is holding on to its green pigment due to the presence of a mine at the bottom of the leaf near the midrib. The micro moth, Ectoedemia argyropeza, is responsible for this. Whilst it is difficult to find the tiny adult moth when it flies in early summer with a wingspan of only around 7 mm, its presence can be found on shed Aspen leaves showing a green "island" similar to this where the chlorophyll remains.
