Start collecting and sending us your records

We want to gather information on all wildlife all over our region. Please send us records of all plants and animals that you see and can confidently identify.

We require four basic pieces of information for each record: What/Where/When/Who.

What
The name of the plant or animal. Common names or preferably the scientific name e.g. Primula vulgaris (Primrose), so as to avoid confusion.

Where
Gives a close indication of the location of the sighting. A 6-figure grid reference is preferable and also a name of the nearest location which is shown on an OS map.

When
Date of the record, preferably the day you recorded it but could be month, year or a range of dates.

Who
Name of the recorder. If someone else helped you with identification or confirmed your record please send us their name too.

Any more information that you collect will add to the value of your record e.g., habitat where you found it, numbers or abundance, male or female, stage of life cycle, its behaviour, or other plants it was growing with.

If you are interested in collecting biological records that can be used in the NESBReC database you can download a recorder form below:

The form is available as a web page document (16KB) which you should print out in landscape orientation.

HTML File Download Recorder form as Word Document

Alternatively you can download a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet to make recordings. Once you have completed your records, please email the spreadsheet back to us at: nesbrec@aberdeenshire.gov.uk

The Excel file is 17KB in size. To download the file, click on the following link with your right mouse button. In Internet Explorer choose 'Save Target As..'. This information may be stored on a database and used by NESBReC for wildlife conservation and management
