Grampian Fungus Group forays 2016

The Grampian Fungus Group is keen to encourage new fungal enthusiasts in North East Scotland! GFG aims to help each other learn more about fungi and their identification, collect species records for NESBReC, as well as just photographing and appreciating the amazing shapes and structures of different species.

Membership of the group is a mere £5.00 a year but you are welcome to attend a foray with GFG and see how you get on. Here are details of GFG’s remaining forays for 2016 and they would welcome anyone with an interest in all things fungal to participate:

Sun. Sept 18th 10.30am – 3.30pm GFG Foray to Forvie. Meet at Forvie Visitor Centre, off the B9003 at Kirkton of Slains, NK 034 289 OS map 38, Aberdeen &surrounding area – NB not our usual meeting place as there is a beach clean going on at the southern end of the reserve. Oct 9th 10.30am-3.30pm UK Fungus Day –  a joint event with the GFG and the National Trust for Scotland Ranger Service at Crathes Castle, near Banchory. 10.30-1.00am Drop in fungus display and Children’s crafts; 1.30-3.30pm Fungal Forays. Sat 15th Oct 10.30am – 3.30pm GFG Foray to Haddo House (National Trust for Scotland ) & Country park. Meet in the car park at Haddo (GR NJ868342 OS Map 30 Fraserburgh). We will start by looking at the wax cap lawns and then move into the wider estate. Foray Leader: Toni Watt (mobile 0777 3626981)

This is an excellent opportunity to learn more about our local fungi in an informal way with other enthusiasts over the next couple of months. GFG also has a Facebook page at
